Our Best Tips for your Video Audition

Getting ready to submit your video application for the 2020 World Ballet Competition Finals? We gathered our Top 5 Helpful Tips based on frequently asked questions.

 #1 AGE OF COMPETITOR

The Dancer's birth date is determined as of May 1, 2020.

 

#2 SUBMIT EARLY

Applications are reviewed in groups based on the date they are received.

Video Auditions for the 14th Annual Orlando Finals are accepted through March 17, 2020 while spots and entries are available. Those submitting an application at the last minute risk being placed on the Waiting List.

 

#3 VIDEO SUBMISSION

Video Audition

Your video submission can be filmed from a rehearsal in studio or a performance.

Applicants filming in studio may use a costume or class attire (with no additional accessories). Professional videography is not needed.

If sending a video from a performance, the video must only feature the applicant of the World Ballet Competition.

Individual Category: Soloist applicants age 9-13 are required to submit a video of one (1) classical variation. Soloist applicants age 14-24 are required to submit two (2) classical variations.

Ensemble Category: Ensemble applicants are required to submit a video of their ensemble piece(s); choreography must be created within 5 years of the competition date.

 

#4 MAKE SURE YOUR APPLICATION IS COMPLETE

Your application must include all required items (Contact Information, Video(s), Headshot, Short Biography, and Audition fee).

Incomplete Applications will not be sent to the Judging Panel. If your application is missing an item, you will be notified by WBC Staff and your application will only be submitted when all items have been received.

#5 SOLOIST DANCERS ACCEPTED TO COMPETE HAVE SPECIFIC SOLO REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH COMPETITION ROUND IN ORLANDO

World Ballet Competition - Julia Anne Conway

Below you will find an abbreviated summary of the competition round requirements for soloist dancers accepted to compete in Orlando:

Introductory (age 9-11): There is one round of competition and dancers will perform onstage 2 times. Two different classical variations must be prepared.

Preparatory (age 12-13): There are two rounds of competition and dancers will perform onstage up to 3 times. Two different classical variations and one contemporary solo must be prepared.

Pre-Professional (age 14-16): There are three rounds of competition and dancers will perform onstage up to 4 times. A minimum of two different classical variations and one contemporary solo must be prepared.

Professional (age 17-24): There are three rounds of competition and dancers will perform onstage up to 4 times. A minimum of two different classical variations and one contemporary solo must be prepared.

Ensemble Groups

Ensemble (age 9-24): There is one round of competition for ensemble groups. There is no limit on the number of pieces ensemble groups can enter. Entries may be performed in the following dance styles: ballet, neo-classical, modern, character/folklore, jazz, or lyrical. Contemporary pieces must be choreographed within 5 years of the competition date.
